“Can I just have all the digital files?”

It’s a question I hear all the time as a newborn and family photographer in Haverhill, Suffolk - The answer is always yes — I, like most photographers, offer that option. But here’s the thing: is that really what you want? It’s usually the most expensive option on the menu, and before you commit to it, it’s worth asking yourself why. Because in truth, most people don’t actually want every single file … they want what those files represent. And here’s a thought — if you haven’t even seen the images yet, why book them all upfront? Yes, this might go against the idea of “packages”, but in my world, having all the digital files is always available as an upgrade once you've seen your images. I’ll never stop you choosing that if it feels right for you! In fact, I’ve had clients who knew exactly what they wanted, purchased every digital file, and went on to create the most beautiful albums and keepsake boxes. But not everyone has the time, energy, or interest to do that — and that’s completely okay too.

Ask Yourself: What Do I Really Want From My Photos?

When you say you want all the digital images, what do you actually picture?

  • A keepsake memory box filled with prints you can hold in your hands, sit and share with your children as they grow, use them to tell them stories about their early years, show to family and friends, and one day pass down for them to treasure too.
  • A beautifully crafted album that tells the story of your little one’s first year, something you can pull out and look through on rainy days?
  • A piece of wall art that takes pride of place in your home — a daily reminder of this fleeting season of life?
  • Or do you honestly want every single file on a USB stick, tucked away in a drawer, where it may never be looked at again?

I don’t mean this harshly, but honestly — will you ever find the time? Will you really get round to it? As a mum of three myself, I know exactly how it goes. Our eldest has the full set of albums and keepsake boxes, but by the time baby number two arrived — and then number three — those little projects became fewer and fewer. Life simply got in the way. It wasn’t that we didn’t care, it just slipped our minds. And now, to catch up, we’d have to sift through thousands of photos, spend hours sorting, and get everything printed.

But it doesn’t have to be like that for you. As your photographer, I don’t just have to hand over images — I can also offer a personalised service where I design and create albums and keepsake boxes for you. That way, no matter how many little ones come along, each child gets the same love and attention in their memories. And you? You get to spend your time and energy where it truly matters — with your family. Not buried under a mountain of photos, or chasing up printers who’ve managed to miss two of your most precious images from the delivery.

The Reality of “All the Files”

Digital files are wonderful — they give you the freedom to print, share, and store your images however you like. But here’s why they’re priced higher than anything else: when you buy them, you’re essentially buying a licence to use them endlessly, in unlimited ways, forever.

That’s a huge amount of value — but sometimes it’s not what people actually need. Often, the families who come to me thinking they want every file end up realising that what they really treasure is one breathtaking piece of wall art to treasure forever … or an album their little one can flip through as they grow.

No Time? I Take Care of Everything

With me, you don’t need to worry about planning, printing, or finding the time to design your album or keepsake box. I do all of this for you! Who really has the time to sit down and design a photo album when you’re juggling night feeds, nappies, school runs, and everyday family life? That’s where I come in. I’ll carefully curate your images, design your album, and put together keepsake boxes that are ready to be treasured. It means you can simply enjoy your photos without the stress of another task on your to-do list.

So, Before You Decide …

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Where do I see these photos living in 5 years’ time?
  • Do I want to use my images (as art, books, prints) or simply own them?
  • Will having every single photo make me happier, or will a carefully chosen collection bring me more joy?

My Advice

If you know deep down that you’ll never have the time (or patience!) to print or design your own albums, then let me take that off your hands. I’ll guide you through choosing your favourites and turning them into something tangible — something you can touch, display, and truly enjoy. Because at the end of the day, your memories deserve more than to live on a USB stick. They deserve to be part of your everyday life.
