There’s always an excuse, isn’t there? And I’ll be honest—I know because I’ve been there myself!
A couple of months ago we finally had our own family photoshoot with the amazing Alison McKenny Photography. But do you know how long I’d been putting it off? Our last family photos were when our youngest was born… and he’s about to turn three. That’s three whole years without an updated family photo.
The excuses? Oh, I had them all:
“I need to lose the pregnancy weight still.”
“I haven’t had my hair done yet.”
“I don't have an outfit.”
“Maybe next month…”
Sound familiar?
But here’s the truth: if not now, then when? Time doesn’t wait for anyone. What we have today can so easily be gone tomorrow.
When you look at your grandparents’ or great-grandparents’ old family photos, do you notice their hairstyle or outfit? Of course not. You simply feel grateful to see their face, to hold that memory. That’s what truly matters. And one day, your children will feel the same about you. They won’t care whether your hair was styled, your outfit was new, or you thought you needed to lose a few pounds. They’ll simply be glad to see you—their mum, dad, nan, or grandad—just as you were, loved and present in the photo.
Of course, I know cost can feel like a reason to put it off too. But ask yourself: can you really afford not to capture those memories? If something happened tomorrow, would your family have photographs of you to hold onto? We spend money on coffees, takeaways, nails, and hair without hesitation—things that only last days or weeks at most.
But a photograph, it lasts a lifetime.
That’s why I also offer affordable Family Sessions in Haverhill, Suffolk, at just £95. These 60 minute private sessions include one professional-quality digital image to keep forever. No minimum spend. No hidden extras. Just one photograph that could mean everything one day.
Yes, you could take photos yourself—but let’s be honest. That usually means you’re the one behind the camera, not in it. And just like making your own coffee, painting your own nails, or cooking your own takeaway, it’s never quite the same as having it done professionally.
At the end of the day, it comes down to your priorities and what you truly value. Not everyone sees the importance of professional photography—and that’s okay. But for those who do, the truth is simple: memories are priceless, and their value only grows with time. 💛
Contact me to schedule your session today — let’s not make any more excuses 💛
